Lawyers

There are people in this world who are looking for ways to rip off other people. There are also people in this world who don't want to take responsibility for thier actions. These are just some of the facts of life, and as long as they are, we will need people who we can turn to that can help. But, in the process of setting up the system to do this, we have created a genuine mess. I sit and watch all of these annoying commercials on TV from lawyers telling you that if you've been hurt in an accident, you need to sue someone. Sometimes though, an accident is just that -- an accident. No one is to blame, it just happend. But not according to the lawyers on TV -- someone must pay for what happend. They don't care who, as long as they get thier percentage. I bet if you took that away from them -- told them that they could no longer work on a percentage basis -- there would be fewer lawsuits. Of course, the lawyers will say that you're denying legal representation to people who can't afford it -- I think it's just a load of hooey. There has been talk of legislation that would require the loser in a lawsuit to pay for the winners legal fees -- that's a good start, but how about this -- if a person sues someone, and that person looses, then both the plaintiff and the lawyer have to pay. That way, not only would they not get paid, they'd be punished for encouraging needless litigation. That's not likely to happen of course, since most of our nations lawmakers are lawyers (does that strike anyone else as self serving?) There will be times when you need a lawyer -- and there are good, honest lawyers to be found -- but I wish we could do something about the rest of them, don't you.
