Why don't I update this page more often?

I had another rant all written here, ready to read, but before it even got posted to the world, it was relegated to the bottom. Was it no longer pertinant, like some of the other rants at the bottom? No, it was a few months old, but not yet obsolete. Too many things have happend since I wrote it, and I felt they deserved to be in the fore-front. So why don't I update this page more often? It's not like I have anything better to do -- I've been playing Mr. Mom, waiting for a pc technician job to come up in the technological wasteland that is Decatur Il. Other people update daily -- a few lines about thier day on the front page, the previous days and weeks listed below, so you can always keep up with them, no matter how long your away. Me, I can't do any better than sometime in July! What's worse is, after I spend a half hour typing on some nicely witty piece of prose, when Win98 barfs out Outlook Express with an out of memory error. I know 64 meg of memory isn't a huge amount anymore, but I assure you that there was no way on God's green earth that I had 64 meg of stuff sitting in the background! There are times when I think Win95 OSR2 was a whole lot more stable than Win98 Special Edition.

Here's a little gift I got in my mailbox today:

Sorry man, but I read some of your NRA and slick willie comments and you
show your lack of intellect.

You know, it's a free country, and everyone has a right to thier own opinion -- that's why this entire section exsists. And I've been dunned before -- there was a kid who told me my page sucked, and that his was the most awsome page ever. When I visited his awesome page, it was full of broken links and javascript. I pointed out that when you slam someone else's page you'd best be sure your page works. He retorted by calling me 30 and not with it -- I pointed out that I was in fact 32 (at the time), and hoped to see his page when he fixed it. My page is still here, his is long since gone. Then I recieved a message from a young lady who disagreed with my opinion of Jewel's first album. She was a smart kid -- told me her opinion, why she thought I was wrong, without once ever resorting to cheap theatrics. As you can tell by the savage witt, brilliant repartee, and breathtaking rebuttals which category this guy falls in. Really people, I don't expect everyone to agree with me, but if you want to tell me I'm wrong, prove it to me -- I'm more than willing to listen. But no, I get letters like this, and I fully expect my reply to him will bring on yet another great piece of literature, before I finally add his name to my twit list. Guy, if you're reading this, suprise me -- make me see the error of my way, but don't waste your time and mine with another lame effort like this. (editors note: I recieved a response -- quite detailed, but of course he still insists that I am a moron because I don't echo his personal philosophy to the letter -- we'll see how this ends...)

A pleasant suprise came to while participating in the recent discussions on the WMAQ bulletin board concerning the invasion of Decatur by the right reverend jesse jackson. Since most of the participants were from the Chicago area, they didn't have the front row seat I had (well, not front row, more like row 3, section right). Sure some people had different opinions than mine, but on the whole the discussions, while heated, were intelligent and thought provoking. I was even lauded for my intelligent observations on the situation (I can only asuume Mr. Man from before wasn't one of the debaters). I was looking for some way to vent my frustrations over the way the national media was portraying the circus, and the regulars were gracious enough to give me a say -- and I thank them for that.

As part of the page update process, I decided to actually look at my page again -- it had been a while. Imagine my suprise to see my counter at the 3000 mark -- last time I remember actually looking at it, it was down around 2700. I was also suprised to see a banner saying click here to visit a bisexual page. I wasn't too pleased about that, while everyone has a right to thier opinions, this page isn't it -- this page is my opinion and mine alone. So off I go to link exchange to find out how to prevent that from happening again. Suprise, Suprise, another Microsoft acquisition. It also mentioned several hundred hits in the last 6 months! Silly me, I guess people actually are reading my page, maybe I'd better give them something new to see. I also took the time to narrow my advertising focus, and filter out sexual orientations I don't agree with (please feel free to visit thier pages all you want, but don't ask me to send you there -- I didn't even provide a link to the porno page an old Navy buddy of mine had, though he offered me space to use for free).

So, will I do better updating my page? I'd like to say I will -- and I should really try, since I seem to be getting more visitors than I expected -- but we'll just have to wait and see.

Now, if I can only remember to update Geocities -- I think the last update there was a year ago (eeeek)
