Imus in mourning...

Once again the forces of victimization have won out -- I sure hope Al Sharpton doesn't hurt his shoulder patting himself on the back. Imus is off the air -- for now. The thing is, Imus was pulling in between 15 and 20 million dollars in revenues for his show (depending on which news organization is busy skewering him at the time). That's a fairly substantial amount of money -- someone will offer to put him back on the air -- the only one who will keep him silent is Imus himself.

Myself, I never listened to him -- or Howard Stern for that matter. They're both jerks (actually they're both something else, but I'm being nice) who open their mouths without thinking of anyone else first. I think Dana Plato wouldn't have killed herself if it hadn't been for Stern's badgering (although she was still one seriously messed up woman).

But here's the thing -- I'd be willing to bet the girls on the Rutgers b-ball team have heard a lot worse than nappy headed ho (and in all fairness, according to the description of nappy headed in the Spike Lee movie School Daze, most of the girls weren't nappy headed) -- from opposing team fans, from most of the young black men they know socially, and from the hip hop industry in general. Why should these girls care what some old ugly white redneck calls them? Because Al Sharpton (who would be nappy headed were it not for all the hair gel) and the Church of the Abused Victim told them to care. The African-American community has a lot more to worry about than what Imus calls the girls of one b-ball team.

The fact that this is what they protest about is one of them...
