Day 5

Happy Birthday to you... It's Louise's Birthday today. Normally, Sharon goes down and visits her mom on her birthday, and I stay at home (we find life goes better when we have a little break from each other). Today, the best we can manage is to borrow Bob's truck to go into Carson to do some shopping. But first, we have some of Bob's spaghetti for lunch. Bob doesn't get to make spaghetti much, because Rosa doesn't like it, and he ends up having to throw most of it out. But we're there, and we're more than happy to try his spaghetti. We go to Kmart to get some gifts for Sharon's cousin John (his wife is expecting), and a few other odds and ends. We pass on the Super K slots; somehow it doesn't sound right. It isn't quite time to meet the others for supper, so we go to the Nevada State Museum. We find it a comforting place to visit -- right by the door they have a picture of Abrham Lincoln, just like all the state facilities here in Illinois. 50% of the exhibits are the same as the Illinois State Museum , leading me to wonder if it's a federal law that all state museums have to have certain exhibits. We're told that the gift shop will be closing soon if we want to visit it -- it's on the second floor. So we go up stairs and look around. And around. And around. We meet someone else who asks us where the gift shop is -- we say who knows. We finally find it, and Sharon gets more postcards. Then we stroll through the exhibits for a while before exiting through the simulated silver mine. We crossed the street, went to the Nuggett and waited for the rest of the group to gather for supper. Steak again. We stuff ourselves yet again, and have another family get together. Then, we go out and try our luck again. We decide that the only use for nickel slots is to waste time. We go back to the quarter slots. I take my $9.00 and end up with $30.00. I hit one combination, and it started ringing and spitting out quarters -- the counter passed 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 ,60, 70, and finally stopped at 80. That's when I decided to cash out. Sharon picked up a few more bucks, and we headed back for the ranch (stopping for me to get some decongestant and cough drops). Hopefully I'll be able to sleep better.
