Day 6

Bye bye Mom, Bye bye Dad. Ken and Louise take off early to head for home. This time they decide a trip through the mountains might not be so bad (apparently traffic around Vegas unnerved them a bit). Bob has an eye appointment that day (requiring pupil dilation), so while he's there, we have use of the car for an hour or so. Sharon saw a sign pointing to Virginia City, and thinking it to be a shortcut, we try to find the road. Unfortunately the road we're on is a divided highway, and we end up going back and forth several times before we find the correct road (I felt like an atomic particle -- going round and round until we built up enough speed to escape). We find the shortcut, which leads us right back to the same road we came into town on! We go on anyway. We go up. We go down. We go left. We go right. We go all directions at the same time. We finally arrive. Remember the TV show Bonanza? it was set in Virginia City. We just find it hard to believe it was this Virginia City. Bonanza's Virginia City was flat like a western town was supposed to be -- this one was 400 feet wide and built on a 45 degree angle. In some places, the tops of building one street over could be reached by stretching a ladder from the sidewalk on the next street over to the buildings top. There was a pretty church that I recognized instantly as being the place her cousin was married in -- no two buildings could have had that same ugly carpeting in them. We buy some tame and tasteful tshirts as souveniers, and head back to pick up Bob. We go to visit Victor and Macariah for a while (again) until it's time to get Rosa. Then we go out to dinner again -- this time, Mc Donald's! What a relief, after all those big meals to have something light and utterly frivolous (not to mention Laura friendly). We go home, and begin packing up for the return home.
